Miss Holmes found herself in a whirlwind of romance scams on the internet and found pleasure in baiting the fraudsters and posting her laugh-out-loud exploitation of them to Twitter which led to an enormous audience.

That, she realised, showed that there are many people who want to meet the love of their lives and are prepared to overlook all kinds of signs that the person (if it's a person and not a computer) they are dealing with.

In this chat with Nigel Morris-Cotterill, a financial crime risk strategist with 30 years' experience, Miss Holmes talks about the fun stories, the heartbreaking stories and, most importantly, the reasons why such frauds work so effectively and why victims don't stop even when presented with the evidence that the whole thing is not a real relationship but is simply a fraud that will, eventually, bleed them dry with, in some cases, unthinkable consequences.
