Regulatory Ramblings No. 69 - Hong Kong University
Ajay Shamdasani hosts Patrick Dransfield and Nigel Morris-Cotterill, in separate sessions, for the The University of Hong Kong - Reg/Tech Lab, HKU-SCF Fintech Academy, Asia Global Institute, and HKU-edX Professional Certificate in Fintech, with support from the HKU Faculty of Law.
Mr Dransfield sets the current use of computerised systems, referred to as "AI" in a historical and philosophical context.
Mr Morris-Cotterill sets out the arguments that computers are mechanised psychopaths and that the consequences for society of the current path are dire.
The relationship between the two interviews is striking: the speakers have never met nor crossed paths professionally so far as they can recall. They come at the subject from very different positions. And yet, the two approaches provide a seamless, and easy to understand, critique of a complex area.
