Boxing clever? Manny Pay launched in the Philippines
The boxer and former Philippines Senator has earned prize purses and appearance money estimated at well over USD500 million over his career and he has an over-riding interest in the interface between money and tech. In fact, this is his fourth foray into some kind of venture involving NFTs, Cryto currency and more. But this is the first where his company is fully regulated.
But it's not easy to find out about the business: it's targeting person to person and business-customer transactions, it provides a service to pay multiple beneficiaries simultaneously (a boon for companies paying gig workers and commission agents in Multi-level marketing.
But its website at mannypay.ph is well below par with the biggest problem being trapped in circles of pages, none of which provide the answers: who is behind the venture.
It's very new but it should meet basic standards as to statements and contact information.
He's got branding that most international companies would die for, he's got even more personal loyalty. He is a figure of such popular stature that Manny Pay is guaranteed lots of attention.
That will bring its own problems: FinTechs that have grown too fast have found that they take on a lot of expensive accounts.
As a fully regulated business, there is one safe assumption: it might be his name on the app, but it's not him that's running operations: The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is a highly developed central bank and regulator that has experience with a wide range of financial businesses, in multiple sectors and ranging from enormous to tiny.
