Laundering proceeds of old crime - Media Reports - Kerala

The report (https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Kochi/ed-may-file-money-laundering…) says that the Court said that where the proceeds of an old crime are laundered, then prosecution can arise.
Petitions filed by Shamsuddin, former Deputy Controller of Explosives, Ernakulam, and others challenging the ED case registered against them were dismissed.
Also, the Court found that it is not necessary to wait until trials of predicate offences are concluded before proceeding in respect of money laundering: this has been an issue in several jurisdictions around the world but has mostly been resolved in favour of saying that a laundering conviction is not dependent on a conviction for a predicate crime. .
