Joshua Keshaba Sierra Garcia was one year old when he and what the USA's FBI refer to as "relatives" left Los Angeles to travel to Mexico City to have the child baptised.

According to the FBI, he was a large child - three feet tall - some 3-5 inches taller than the average and between 25-28 pounds, compared to the average of 17-21 according to a hospital, Children's Wisconsin.

He had pierced ears, a trait imported to Mexico from Spain and now very much part of Mexican culture, even at a very young age.

This was not a pleasant kidnapping: his 14 years old babysitter was murdered.

A ransom was demanded, a drop arranged and one kidnapper was arrested. 20 years on, he is still in jail in Mexico.

However, despite continued investigations, the child, who would now be 21, was never found and no effective information was found as to his whereabouts.

The FBI has released a computer-modified image representing what is thought to be what Garcia would look like now and has offered a reward.

But while Donald Alway, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office says he is "hopeful," it seems that there is not much hope at all: "we have not given up hope that we can find him and determine what happened to him 20 years ago."

There's a "Wanted" poster showing a progression of age-modified images and the boy is described as wearing "Garcia was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt, blue shorts, and sandals."

Kidnapping for ransom is a financial crime and that was the apparent reason for this crime. At the time, Americans in Mexico were common targets although a child so young was unusual.
