Offshore Alert

U.S.-based business intelligence firm OffshoreAlert has noticed a significant increase in high-value, Asia-related liquidation and fraud cases being filed at commercial courts in Caribbean offshore financial centres.

Recent cases include petitions to wind up the Bank of Asia, a crypto bank set up by Hong Kong-based lawyer Carson Wen, and China-based digital advertiser Avazu Inc. at the British Virgin Islands High Court and Hong Kong-based Hammer Strategic Fund and China-based wellness firm Access Corporate Group at the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands. Petitioners include a mutual fund ultimately owned by a Chinese provincial government that claims to have invested US$53 million in Hammer Strategic Fund and Google Asia, which is seeking to enforce what it claims is a US$226 million arbitration award against Avazu. In another case in the BVI, Malaysia-owned forex trading firm Tech RealFX Ltd. was sued by investors who claimed they are owed US$598 million.

OffshoreAlert hunts for red flags in high-value international finance by monitoring offshore and onshore courts, regulatory actions, and other sources. The Miami-based company recently launched an API product that allows major banks, law firms, and others to fully integrate its global intelligence into their existing AML/Risk systems.
